Green Skills for Green Jobs
Sustainability is a combination and synergy of social justice, ecological health and economic vitality. This publication responds to a growing interest in sustainable development and addresses urgent issues that require the need for action.
Although there has been a lot of discussion in the last decade about sustainable development, there is a need for a more accurate understanding of the concept itself. Numerous questions arise and require answers such as: What is the essence of Sustainable Development? Are my actions sustainable? How can I become sustainable? Does this kind of development save the Planet, and does it provide solutions to all the problems we are facing?
One of the most accomplished definitions of sustainable development is the one formulated by the Brundtland Commission: "Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs" (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987).
Sustainable development has three components: environment, society and the economy. The fulfillment of these three components is inseparable and takes place in sync. The idea that a healthy society is built on a well-managed environment, with an economy referring to natural resources, the needs and desires of the generation for a healthy life, in the standards confirmed by the society itself, is well considered.
This publication aims to provide young people, teachers and NGOs working with young people with the tools, information and inspiration needed to implement a wide variety of sustainable practices, which should be part of our everyday life.
Above all, young people have unlimited power to inspire communities, by playing the role model who helps transform sustainability into a tangible reality for all.
This publication also provides a summary of facts and data from scientific studies but also many practical tips that have derived from traditional knowledge.
The Resource Environmental Center in Albania (REC Albania) encourages you to share this publication with your friends and acquaintances as well as your teachers, so that this useful and valuable knowledge can circulate and become part of our personal culture.
